GB to MB: Convert Gigabytes to Megabytes

To convert GB to MB, multiply by 1,000 for the decimal (SI) result or by 1,024 for the binary result. So 8 GB is 8,000 MB decimal and 8,192 MiB binary. Use decimal for data plans and billing, binary for RAM and operating-system figures.

The formula

MB = GB × 1,000 (decimal) or MiB = GiB × 1,024 (binary). The reverse is a division by the same factor. When you are writing a limit into code, express it in raw bytes so nobody has to guess which multiplier you meant.

Sizing quotas and limits

If you offer a 10 GB storage plan, decide up front whether that is 10,000,000,000 bytes or 10,737,418,240 bytes and document it — the 737 MB difference is real money at scale and a real argument with a customer at the boundary. The same applies to backup windows, log retention budgets and per-tenant caps.
