TB to GB: Convert Terabytes to Gigabytes
To convert TB to GB, multiply by 1,000 for the decimal (SI) result or by 1,024 for the binary result (TiB to GiB). A 1 TB drive holds 1,000 GB by the manufacturer's count, which your operating system displays as roughly 931 GiB. No storage is missing — the two systems count differently.

The formula
GB = TB × 1,000 (decimal) or GiB = TiB × 1,024 (binary). To find what an operating system will report for a decimal terabyte, divide the raw byte count by 1,024³: 1,000,000,000,000 ÷ 1,073,741,824 = 931.32 GiB.
Planning at terabyte scale
At this scale the 7.4% gap between the two systems is hundreds of gigabytes, so state the base in every capacity plan. Also budget for overhead beyond the raw number: filesystem metadata, RAID parity, snapshots, replication factor and free-space headroom for garbage collection commonly consume 20–40% of nominal capacity before you store a single byte of user data.
