KB to MB: Convert Kilobytes to Megabytes
To convert KB to MB, divide by 1,000 for the decimal (SI) result or by 1,024 for the binary result (MiB). So 5,000 KB is 5 MB decimal and 4.88 MiB binary. Both are correct — the difference is which counting system your tool uses.

The formula
MB = KB ÷ 1,000 (decimal) or MiB = KiB ÷ 1,024 (binary). To go back, multiply by the same factor. Email attachment limits, upload caps and image size guidance are usually quoted in decimal MB, while a file browser showing 4.88 MB for the same file is using the binary base.
Practical sizes
A typical web page weighs 2–4 MB. A high-quality phone photo is 3–8 MB. A minute of 1080p video is roughly 100 MB. A common upload limit of 5 MB is 5,000 KB decimal or 5,120 KiB binary — worth stating explicitly when you write the validation rule, because that 120 KiB gap generates genuine support tickets.
